Duncan's Adventure

Hey everybody,

Yesterday morning I got up to let Kyylyn out at about 6 and when I went out Duncan ran out onto the porch (this is a normal ritual). However when I went out to leave for work he was nowhere to be found. He had pushed the bottom out of one side of the screen and disappeared. I went out and called him for a few minutes, but had to go to work, and then Josh looked for him for a bit before he went to work. I was hoping he'd come home for dinner (if you know my cat, you know he doesn't miss a meal!!) but he didn't. I started crying when I came home and the only one to greet me wanting food was Taijah. So anyway, I was worried sick about my poor pampered, declawed house cat being out in the wild for the first time. Josh kept saying "he knows his way home". I know he knows his way home--if he's ABLE to come home. Being a vet tech I know all too well the dangers for cats outside, cars, dogs, coyotes, mean people and nice people who rescue and keep "strays" (he did have his collar on though so if any one found him they would know who to call). So I cried myself to sleep when he didn't come back. I can't even imagine what parent's go through if a child is abducted or wonders off--it's bad enough when it's "just" my cat!!! But when Josh got up to let Kyylyn out this morning, Duncan was back in the porch waiting to come in. He was walking all hunched up and with short strides on his back end, so I was thinking maybe he hurt his back or hips, but they seem ok. He got into a tangle with something though--his poor little back claws where splintered and broken down past the quicks, and his pads are all worn. He's used to carpet not pavement and gravel!! But I was just thrilled that my little buddy came back relatively unharmed. If he got in a fight with another cat, he might show up with an abscess but worse things have happened. Hopefully he has learned his lesson and won't wander off anymore but I doubt it!! So that was Duncan's adventure.

Nothing else exciting going on. My back's doing much better even starting to lift again this week, so that's good. I guess I don't really have anything else to write so I'll "talk" to you all later! :o)
